The Workshop

The workshop is a 25x30 metal building. it has a nice concrete floor and brand-new central air heating and cooling system. Its still a work in progress and a fun place for me to hangout.

1/14/2023 - Motorcycle Carburetor Rebuild

My Honda CB750 Nighthawk has been sitting for several years. It runs but not very well so, it time to remove the carburetors and give them a thorough cleaning.

This is my 2002 CB750 Nighthawk

I bought this motorcycle new in 2002 and as of today has 35,000 miles on it. I have ridden it through 11 different states and have done multiple 1,000-mile day rides on it. It has been very reliable and has never been back to the Honda dealer for any repairs. I stopped riding a few years ago and because of neglect it does not run very well today.

Iā€™m going to spend this weekend removing all four carbs and giving them a thorough cleaning.

These are the four carburetors on my workbench all of them disassembled and ready for the cleaning tank.

This looks like a really daunting puzzle to put back together right? I found a website www.themotorcyclemd.com that has video instructions on how to do a complete cleaning of these carbs and it is fantastic!

This is my ultrasonic cleaning tank. Its 6.5 liters and will hold two carburetors at one time.

The tank is filled with a mixture of water and Dawn dishwashing soap. I adjust the heating unit to heat the solution to 50 degrees Celsius for two 30 minute cycles. This tank has been a fantastic addition to my workshop and eliminates most of the need for hash chemicals. I got this one from Amazon for $119 which seemed like a pretty good deal. It does a great job removing rust, corrosion, dirt and grease.

The finished product.

Here are the 21 years old carbs all cleaned and reassembled. Now comes the fun part, putting them back on the bike and syncing them!
