This is my CB station. I created a contact log dashboard in Microsoft Excel to help me keep track of my DX contacts. My furthest contact this week was an operator in Alberta Canada 1,700 miles away. It's a lot of fun when the CB side band skip is really coming in.
7/9/2023 - The antenna is a 45-year-old Super Magnum with four 9-foot ground plane radials. The Super Magnum is 18 feet tall and is mounted on top of my 20-foot antenna pole.
7/9/2023 - After seven days of curing I removed the cardboard quick form tube. The antenna pole is made of two sections of galvanized chain- link fence top rail joined together to make a 20-foot antenna pole.
7/2/2023 - New concrete base poured for my CB antenna. Its a 16-inch paver with a 12-inch quick form tube. I've added a 13-inch section of galvanized chain-link fence post for the antenna pole to drop into.
New Cameras and Night Video.
6/10/2023 - We bought two new Wosoda trail cameras. Last week was the first time we have had them out. This video was taken in the woods at 2:00am in the morning. In this aera its so dark that you would not even be able to see your hand in front of your face.
I was really impressed with the night video quality of these cameras. We have used several different brands but this one performs the best by far!
The Coyote.
6/10/2023 - We checked the trail cameras today and found some video of a bobcat in an area that we have never seen them in before. There was also this video of a coyote wandering around the dry pond area. Sometime this summer I hope to have this pond repaired so that it will once again hold water.
6/9/2023 - I'm really starting to enjoy CB use here on the farm. I purchased a Uniden Bearcat 980SSB that I'm going to use as a base station. I'm using a 20-foot antenna mounted on the roof of my workshop for this setup. The lower sideband on the upper channels is loaded with conversation from all over the United States and Canada. It's really interesting to listen in on the conversations.
5/29/2023 - I picked up a Uniden Pro 401HH handheld 40 channel CB for use on the farm. The range is surprisingly good. From the house it was able to communicate with the Honda Pioneer anywhere on the farm.
The Turkey are back…
6/4/2023 - There has not been turkey around here in several years. We are starting to see them on our trail cams now so, they are back!
We checked the cameras today and found this video of a mother turkey and her chicks. They are hard to see but, there are about 10 chicks following her into the woods.
Spring Time Deer
6/4/2023 - We checked our trail cameras this weekend and found lots of deer videos. We thought this one was interesting of a mother and her baby that still has its spots. We are guessing that this young deer was born in the last week or so.
5/23/2023 - I bought a Cobra 19 Mini CB for the Honda Pioneer. This thing is Tiny!
5/23/2023 - The Cobra Mini was easy to install and doesn't take up much cab space in the Honda Pioneer. I paired the 19 Mini with a 65-inch whip antenna.
5/13/2023 - We bought a firepit for the new deck on the house. Believe it or not we picked this up at Aldi for $149.
5/13/2023 - I added a couple of new outdoor rugs from Amazon to the deck decor.
12/28/2022 - The weather was nice today so, Jenny and I split some wood from the wood pile. This is the only way to do it! ;)
12/29/2022 - Coffee by the fire just after sunrise. Its 55 degrees outside this morning and we were burning the wood scraps left over from splitting wood yesterday.
We have been cutting trails in our woods for a few years now but, we are not the only ones that use them. We get Bobcats on our trail cameras quite often. This video is from 2020 and its the only time we have seen Bobcat kittens on our cameras.
Our farm tractor is a 1978 Kubota L285. We use it to mow around the fields and blade the driveway.
The North Trail - We use the tractor and mower to cut trails when possible. The mower will cut any brush that the tractor can push down.
